Maho Bay Camps Eco-Resort.

The Program:

woman sitting on a rock overlooking the beach"A woman’s retreat springs from and is guided by  her inner knowing. The intention of a retreat is not  to change anything about you, it is to  re-remember and burnish your divine connection  to yourself, creating support and space to listen to  and follow your own inner promptings. It is time  to catch up with yourself, to ponder the state of your life, to ask important questions, and to rest."
Jennifer Louden, The Woman’s Retreat Book.

"Life is what you're born with. Living is what you do with it."

About Maho Bay Camps

inside of the rustic cabins outside view of the cabins

Maho's rustic, yet comfortable, tent-cottage are built on wooden 16 foot square platforms and easily accommodate two people. Bring a friend! Every cottage has a separate sleeping area with comfortable twin beds. Bed linens, blankets, towels, cooking and eating utensils are all provided, including a Coleman-style propane stove and cooler. Every tent-cottage has its own private deck, electric outlets, a mirror, lights and fans. Barbecue areas and fresh water are available along the walkways. You will share a bathhouse with other "campers" in your tent-cottage area. Each bathhouse has pull-chain, cool-water showers, sinks, and modern low-flush toilets and is within close walking distance from your cottage. While the accommodations are rustic, it is camping in style. Think upscale summer camp.

long staircase to and from beachMaho is nestled on a lush hillside overlooking the water, surrounded by 3 beautiful white sand beaches. This very informal, environmental, award-winning resort is located in a beautiful and wilderness-like setting where your neighbors are tree frogs, hummingbirds, geckos, iguanas and a variety of insects. This close-to-nature setting is hidden among the lush trees and is connected by elevated, wooden walkways with lots of steps. Expect a great Stairmaster-like workout as you walk to your meals, the workshop activities in the Upper Pavilion, your cottage, and the beach each day. There is no room/maid service and you are on your own to transport your luggage when you check in. Pack Light! Really!!

The closest town (Cruz Bay) is 20 minutes by car, perhaps a little longer if you are taking one of the island taxis. If you are planning to spend quite a bit of time in Cruz Bay or exploring the island, you may want to consider renting a vehicle (usually a small jeep type) upon your arrival at Cruz Bay. However there is daily taxi service to and from Maho. In addition, there are a large number of day and half-day trips offered at Maho and you are taxied by a wonderful gentleman, Hamilton, who knows all the best places to go.

open-air pavillion restaurantMaho has an open-air pavilion restaurant on site. Breakfast and dinner is served daily. Meals will cost you between $10 and $20. For breakfast, you'll be given a choice of 2 or 3 breakfast specials or you can make your own breakfast off the a la carte menu. Dinners are always a choice of 2 or 3 entrees, usually one fish, one meat, and one vegetarian offering, plus a full salad bar. Dessert, beer and wine are extra.  Check out the sample menu at Maho at http://www.maho.org/mealsmenu.cfm

And if the accommodations just a little too "rustic" for you? Here is a link to other facilities on the island: http://www.stjohnusvi.com. Or you can check out the other facilities offered by Maho at http://www.maho.org/Destinations.cfm

Getting There:

sunset over beachThe code for the St. Thomas airport is STT. Once in St. Thomas, you'll get a van that will carry you the Red Hook Ferry (about 30-45 minutes; about $10 per person). The ferry (about $3 per person) leaves Red Hook at 6:30 a.m., 7:30 a.m. and then every hour on the hour until 12 midnight and arrives on St. John in Cruz Bay 20 minutes later. You can pick up your rental car in Cruz Bay or take a "taxi" to Maho Bay Camps. If you are arriving at Maho late (after the registration desk is closed) you can find your name and your tent-cottage assignment on the bulletin board in the registration area. Make sure your flashlight is handy! On your way home, leaving Cruz Bay to get back to St. Thomas, the ferry leaves at 6 a.m. and then every hour on the hour.
